Well I'm not much of a happy bunny right now!

Went to see my contact lense specialist at the opticians on Friday as my eyesight had been going blurry a lot and my eyes have gone from having a really good tear production last April 2011 to now just being pretty rubbish (hardly producing any tears and even the tears my eyes do produce are really poor quality). So now I have to use artificial tears everyday, and the optician isn't sure if i'll ever be able to wear contacts at all. He has ordered me some new high tech ones to see if my eyes will cope with them (all be it, i could only wear them occasionally), but he is not sure if they will work as my eyes are pretty bad.

At least the optician seemed to know a lot about the effects that RA can have on your eyes and he was so nice and helpfull, I am just really disapointed as I loved wearing contact lenses instead of glasses and have been wearing them for about 10 years now.

I do have glasses (that i am now wearing instead), but i liked how i looked better without them :(

Hello there. I seem to have developed very blurry sight in my right eye but have the opposite problem of the eye continually tearing rather than being dry. I only have to wear glasses for reading but can imagine how difficult it must be to suddenly have to switch from lenses to glasses. I hope someone else on here can offer tips on how to get round this problem. Best wishes X

Hi Amy,

So sorry to hear you have this problem.
I don't wear contact lenses but I know how much difference they made to my daughter when she was old enough to wear them instead of glasses so I understand how devastating it would be if you have to stop using them.
Fingers crossed that the new ones work for you. There may be someone on here with some tips.

Love Doreen xx

Hi

Sorry to hear that you have had to stop wearing your contact lenses. I too suffer with really dry eyes and blurred vision and have been given some steroid drops as well as the artificial tears. I sympathise as it is very uncomfortable at times and I hate it when my vision blurs. I am going back to the eye clinic in two months and if the inflammation has settled he is talking about plugging my tear ducts so that any tears I do make go direct into the eye.

Hope that they will at least be able to sort out some contacts that you can wear for special occasions.

You tend to wonder what the RA will throw at you next!!

Best Wishes

Sue

Hello

Me too had dry eyes so had to have false tears. I sufferred also the blurred vision and I ended up having
catarrachs taken off both eyes. This is a result of this ruddy RA.

I hope you get improvement

Hi Amy,
sorry to hear about the eye problems you are having.
I had to stop wearing my contact lenses for the same reason so I do empathise with you. That was a number of years ago now so hopefully the technology has improved and these new high tech ones youre getting will be ok for you. I'd be really interested to know how you get on with them.
I know how you feel, just being able to wear them for special occasions would be great as I still don't feel properly 'dressed up' with my glasses on!
It sounds like you have a really good optician so let's hope he can sort things out for you. Good luck!

Take care
